St. Barbara’s Philoptochos

Our Mission: To promote charitable, benevolent and philanthropic outreach; to preserve the sanctity of life and family; and to perpetuate and promote our Orthodox faith and traditions. Oakmont's Saint Barbara's Philoptochos is comprised of adult women from the parish who function as the charitable and philanthropic heart of the parish.

Coffee Hour Sponsors Needed! 

Our Sunday coffee hour gives us a chance to visit with friends, but also to exercise our philoxenia, or hospitality, towards our guests and newcomers to the parish, who have just participated in the Divine Liturgy with us.  We are currently in need of hosts for Sunday coffee hours for many dates (see below).  How to sign up to sponsor a coffee hour?  Contact Mary McCrady at (412) 828-7549.  What to purchase:  Coffee Hour Shopping List

January 2025 - Contact Roz regarding the Birthday lunch events.

January 2025 - Collection of School Supplies begins

January-February 2025 - We start our Sox Collection.  Jean Walter is coordinating this outreach program for shelters.

January 19 - Elaine Spirodonakos is coordinating food for coffee hour, where the Philoptochos is hosting the three-year memorial for our beloved cantor, Peter Papadakos.  

January 19 - Philoptochos Meeting after church

January 31 and February 1 - Please help!  These are the Koulourakia baking dates.

February 14 through 16 - Co-Hosting Goya Basketball Tournament with Ypapanti, East Pittsburgh.  Kay Doas, Dena Tsambis and Kristen Ioannou are chairpersons.  We expect 250 to 300 children, and with parents/chaperones, it will be close to 400 people.  Philoptochos has been asked to support this event by baking cookies (35 - 50 dozen).  Will also need gluten-free items.  More to come.
